Cogeneration can potentially save 1,000 trillion BTUs of fuel in the USA
Industry and tertiary sector
In the United States approximately 1,000 trillion BTUs of fuel are used per year solely to produce heat, while to produce energy in “peak power” mode about 2,000 trillion BTUs are used. These staggering figures could be drastically reduced through the installation of cogeneration plants which, by simultaneously producing heat and electricity, would enable a saving in fuel and a lowering of environmental pollution levels.
