“Energy Efficiency First”: the European Union's objective of improving energy efficiency
Market and policy
Energy efficiency is a priority of the European Union, which has set a new target for a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. Italy is well-placed in terms of energy efficiency compared to other European countries, with a 2.7% reduction per year in energy intensity from 2005 to 2014. In this context, cogeneration is incentivized by European directives that encourage companies to carry out an audit of their energy needs.
