Asia: issues and potential of the energy sector

In Asia more than 600 million people lack adequate access to electricity, while emissions have reached very high levels in population centres. These issues could be resolved by shifting to renewable energy and gas power sources. In China, for example, a programme is underway to reduce reliance on coal-fueled plants and install gas-fueled combined-cycle plants that pollute less and are more efficient.
