UK district heating networks: NIMBY syndrome and structural obstacles are delaying its development

Paul Carey - Managing Director, MVV Environment Services Ltd

In the UK plants for energy production from waste are located far away from residential areas.  This allows for release into the electrical power network but makes distribution of hot water and steam through district heating networks, which have not yet been developed in the country, difficult. Often the NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) phenomenon is added to this, hindering the diffusion of district heating networks.
