It has grown from a small local rice mill to a large company that processes the raw material and develops a range of products based around rice. This is Riso Scotti, which has been in business in Italy for over 150 years. Producing 400 tons of rice, 100 thousand liters of vegetable drinks and 50 thousand rice crackers a day calls for huge amounts of energy; this explains the company’s decision to incorporate a 2.6 MW cogeneration plant within its production site. What are the benefits? A significant reduction in energy bills - the electricity produced by the plant is used entirely for production processes. The thermal energy, on the other hand, is used for heating and cooling a part of the site and for the rice parboiling and drink sterilization processes.
