How to assess the performance of a microgrid and integrate it with a cogeneration system
Energy efficiency and cogeneration
The term "microgrid" refers to a distributed energy generation system that is connected to the grid but can also operate autonomously. Microgrids and associated predictive controls provide optimal dispatch of a variety of generation resources, balancing renewable and thermal energy. Benefits include improved system efficiency, energy surety, reduced T&D congestion and lower emissions. Microgrids are widely used by hospitals, universities, data centers and municipalities. Cogeneration fits perfectly within this context, functioning as an anchor for sources that are not constantly available such as solar and wind power.
