From individual self-consumption to energy communities: the concept of energy sharing
Market and policy
The EU Directives 2001/2008 and 2019/944 stimulate new production and consumption models in which cogeneration can play a dominant role. The new energy sharing concept provides for the synchronicity between emission and production and leads to an awareness on the part of the user to consume energy produced nearby (even better if from renewables and/or high efficiency cogeneration) thus favoring the logic of aggregation. Moreover, the transposition of Directive 2019/944 will enable the creation of new closed distribution systems where it will be possible to apply autonomously determined transport tariffs.
