The “Novo Mercado de Gas” opens new cogeneration opportunities in Brazil
Market and policy
On September 1, 2020, the PL 6.407/2013 bill, providing for new regulation of the natural gas market in Brazil was passed. Among the main changes, the bill introduces the liberalisation of the same market, which has always been controlled by the multinational Petrobras, as well as supporting the development of competition between different players. This change creates a breeding ground for cogeneration in industry. We asked Newton Duarte from COGEN to explain the situation to us.
