Turning point in the CHP market in the US: 88% of projects are in the residential and commercial sector
Market and policy
Over the past five years, the CHP landscape has changed dramatically in the U.S.: 88% of the projects come from what Bruce Hedman calls “non-traditional users” - small industry, the commercial and the residential sector. To date, CHP is the technology that makes the most efficient use of fossil fuels and with low levels of emissions, but in the long term, natural gas will be replaced by biogas, hydrogen and biomethane, allowing for the zero emissions goal to be achieved. Cogeneration will thus remain the best option for all processes that cannot be electrified.
