Energy from beer waste: BrewDog installs a biogas plant

Richard Gueterbock - Director, Foodchains

BrewDog, the famous Scottish brewery, has started its path to decarbonization to reach carbon neutrality by 2022. A real ambitious goal that will be achieved thanks to the installation of a biogas plant powered by residues from beer production. The biogas plant has an associated water clean-up, which will allow both the reuse in the brewery and the river discharge of the plant's water coming out of the process. Moreover it will also include a biomethane upgrade unit that allows grid injection into the local gas grid. This is a good example for other agri-food companies that want to decarbonize their processes.
