The Tajiguas landfill in Santa Barbara: a successful biogas project

John Dewey - CEO, Mustang Renewable Power Ventures

The Tajiguas Landfill in the City of Santa Barbara, managed by Mustang Renewable Power Ventures, will soon be equipped with new a recycling plant that will divide organics from other recyclable materials (plastic, paper, glass) and with a new biogas plant powered by organic waste. The biogas produced - and landfill gas already being extracted at the site - will power CHP units that will produce electricity. Such electricity will be used to operate the recycling plant and any surpluses will be transferred to the grid. Electricity from landfill gas will access the Net Energy Metering Program. This project comes with multiple benefits, from cutting landfill gas emissions to profit generated from selling energy to the grid, to name just a few.
