Emergency power systems: what they are and how they are managed in Germany

Emergency power systems can be used on two fronts: when a building is not served by the grid and as back-up systems in the event of grid blackouts. These systems are in very widespread use in Germany to make up for a lack of non-programmable renewable energy such as wind and solar, and their energy production is also regulated on the market.
