Energy efficiency and cogeneration

Cogeneration and renewable energy in Germany’s future energy outlook

Gunnar Kaestle - Board Member, B.KWK

According to Kaestle, the 2050 energy scenario sees renewables (first and foremost photovoltaic and wind power) as the main source for energy production. However, these energy sources must be supported by cogeneration, which makes it possible to balance and store this type of energy. Currently in Germany CHP is largely used by municipal companies for district heating and by the industry sector. From a legislative point of view, a number of laws have been introduced that have slowed down the expansion of this technology, while other legislation has been issued in support thereof.
