Flexible cogeneration plants and with thermal storage: the most attractive for the market

Nico Blume - Head of Commodities & Reporting, Danpower GmbH

Cogeneration plant operators in Germany are increasingly turning their attention to adapting to the demands of their customers and to current regulations on cogeneration. According to the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG) guidelines, plants must be ever more flexible in order to be available to cover the remaining capacity when needed. This means that the price of electricity on the market becomes more attractive. However, in this way, plants will need to work for up to 3,000 hours per year and provide for thermal accumulation for the company’s thermal needs.
