Cogeneration supplement in Germany: how to obtain it under the KWKG regulation

Johannes Herbert - Senior Consultant, Ramboll

As explained by Herbert, under the current KWKG regulation (Combined Heat and Power Act), only cogeneration power plants feeding electricity back to the grid will be eligible to obtain an incentive. This incentive is different for plants up to 50 kW working for 6,000 hours a year, compared to larger-sized plants that are awarded up to 3,000 hours of work. Indeed, this suggests that it is better to invest in flexible and small plants in Germany at the moment. However, there are exceptions and not all plants fall into this categorization.
