A bright future for cogeneration in the UK
Market and policy
Currently, in the UK we have seen a stalling in the capacity market, which will hopefully be resolved as soon as possible, with an increase in prices. In terms of air quality, on the other hand, in the next few years the limits for NOx and SOx emissions are expected to become increasingly more stringent. Within this context, cogeneration is the most strategic solution to reach the zero emissions target, as it allows for producing energy in a more efficient and less polluting manner. For this reason, it must become more and more flexible in the next 3/5 years.
