New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland: three different approaches to cogeneration

In New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland utilities are not authorized to self-produce energy. Nevertheless, cogeneration is very important in these States. In particular, cogeneration from natural gas plays a fundamental role in New Jersey since the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy and was included in the Emergency Masterplan. Pennsylvania, on the other hand, is a State rich in shale gas and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission supports cogeneration with ad hoc incentives. Finally, Maryland has launched various incentive programs aimed at utilities.
