Decarbonization: the “Fit for 55” package to reduce emissions

Dario di Santo - Managing Director, FIRE

The “Fit for 55” package was proposed by the European Commission to meet the new target of reducing polluting emissions by 55% compared to 1990. The package contains many proposals ranging from increasing the energy efficiency target from 32.5% to 36-39%, and of renewables which goes from 32 to 40%, as well as targets relating to the redevelopment of buildings and district heating and cooling. Other proposals are aimed at the transport sector and at industry, with emissions cuts that go from -43% to -61%. Is there still room for cogeneration in this scenario? We asked Dario Di Santo.
